Meet the Midwives

Tana McCoull, CNM (she/they) grew up in Chesterfield County, VA. She completed her midwifery education at Emory University and has worked as a midwife since 2017 in home, birth center, clinic, and hospital settings. Prior to becoming a midwife, she studied French and Spanish at James Madison University and served as a community health educator for two years in the Peace Corps.

Tana’s belief in every person’s innate dignity and autonomy guides her practice and advocacy work. Being neurodivergent and queer helps her appreciate the importance of seeking to understand each client’s unique perspective and needs. She strives to provide care that is supportive, informative, gentle, and non-biased.

Aside from work, Tana enjoys being with family, making art and music, and learning how random stuff works.

Rachel Becker, CNM (she/her) has been caring for pregnant people and attending births for over a decade. Rachel worked as a doula, nanny, and community organizer on the West Coast before moving to the South. Her experience in these roles informs her midwifery practice, which she centers around client partnership and collaboration.

Rachel is honored to act as a resource for the families she works with, providing evidence-based information and guidance through big life transitions. As a queer midwife, Rachel is particularly passionate about providing affirming care to other queer and trans individuals and families.

She has a Bachelor’s degree in health education and Master’s in Nursing from Emory University.

When she’s not working or sleeping, Rachel enjoys doing jigsaw puzzles, reading, and hiking. She lives in Richmond, VA with two friends, three cats, one dog, and five backyard chickens.

Radically Compassionate Care

We believe that your home is the setting where we can provide the care and experience that you deserve. We view midwifery as a radical practice toward building freedom and justice. Our approach is rooted in liberation from the oppression of white supremacy, capitalism, and colonialism. Rachel and Tana provide compassionate and tender care to all individuals and families, regardless of racial or sexual identity, class, family structure, or belief system.
